Project Description

OSO partnered with Robert Service School to create and deliver a design course for middle school students that explores social and environmental resilience through design and sustainability. The community of Dawson faces increased rates of forest fires and flooding, layered with unique social and contextual challenges.

Throughout the course, students learnt skills in drawing, modelling, digital design tools, and presentation skills. Guest experts, site visits, and the students' lived experiences shaped the context around the designs. The student design project was to create "community cabins". Each cabin integrated sustainable design details, low-carbon materials, construction methods, and social purpose, which were showcased in the school and in a virtual landscape for VR viewing.
