Project Description

L’Arche is a non-profit organization with a global presence that focuses on establishing homes, programs, and support networks for and with people with intellectual disabilities. OSO planning + design has collaborated with L’Arche Halifax residents, staff, families, and partners to reimagine their current housing model to integrate community spaces, essential services, and partner organizations with shared goals and values.

The project addresses the crucial need for affordable and accessible housing that supports independent living, as well as community spaces and services that foster friendships, learning, and a sense of belonging for the growing number of people who are unhoused, both with and without intellectual disabilities. This project also directly responds to the Nova Scotia Governments’ commitment to move 400 people off the wait list for supported independent living by 2024.
