Ouje-Bougoumou shared their stories, their challenges, their wisdom and good humor in the course of developing their Comprehensive Community Plan. By working with a clear sense of direction and resolve, the community came together to reimage their future. Driven by a passion for the land, Ouje-Bougoumou is deeply aware of the need for change which for both present and future generations.
The CCP provides a bridge to get to that future. In the first Chapter of the Ouje-Bougoumou Cree Nation Comprehensive Community plan, OSO undertakes an environmental assessment, which includes flooding studies, infrastructure management, storm water management and climate change impact analysis. This assessment feeds into the action chapter of the CCP, informing environmental policy development and articulating a sustainable approach to land, settlement, and future development sites. It establishes a growth strategy which uses land and infrastructure efficiently while ensuring minimal impact on natural and cultural assets.
The CCP was developed with the community, through workshops, large and small community meetings, and multiple engagement sessions with youth, Chief and Council, staff and Elders. The vision, strategies, projects and initiatives are all based on the aspirations, values, resources, and experiences of community members.
