Project Description

The design for the garden at the Pallet Shelter, a village of 41 units of temporary housing, was shaped by a collective vision rooted in care and connection. Informed by engagement with residents, the project prioritizes inclusivity, creating a functional outdoor space that gives a sense of identity to the neighbourhood. Key takeaways such as the need for green spaces, color, vibrancy, and gathering areas guided the creation of a welcoming, lively space that fosters healing and belonging.

The design incorporates lush gardens, herb beds, and shaded seating zones to support personal growth and collective well-being. Elements like a central gathering space, donation zones, and accessible pathways emphasize connection to each other, to nature, and to the surrounding neighborhood. Through layering art, natural elements, and activation opportunities, the space becomes not just a place to inhabit but one that uplifts and celebrates the people who call it home.
