Project Description

In partnership with the Mi'kmaw Native Friendship Centre and Everyone Everyday, this project aims to develop Indigenous food + medicine gardens, seating, and gathering spaces on the under-utilized green spaces along the approach to the MNFC Wije’winen centre. Through a deeply participatory process, the project also presents multiple opportunities for community involvement, knowledge sharing, and Indigenous placemaking.

Our team engaged community to develop a full site concept and break it up into multiple community project + program opportunities. So far, we had built raised planter boxes, site-responsive benches, murals, and a gathering table with seating. We see this project as not only providing much needed space for Indigenous gardens and gathering, but it will also serve as a focal point of Indigenous culture, identity, and pride in the city for years to come.
