The Spencer House outdoor revitalization project was initiated to create a safe and age-friendly outdoor community space for seniors, children, and families. The goal was to provide a space for community members to gather and socialize outside in an accessible environment. To achieve this, we worked with the community to develop a design for both the front outdoor space to embrace the community and a back outdoor space to expand the programmable space. Throughout the construction of the front phase, we worked with Spencer House to find moments where community members could support the actual construction, the gardening, and the activation of the space.

With the front phase complete and providing a safe and welcoming space for residents to come together and engage in various activities, we continue to seek financial support to complete the construction of the back. Since starting our work with Spencer House, they have seen extreme growth thanks to expanded program space, increased accessibility, and a more welcoming presence on the street.
